In one game, an AVERAGE player has the puck on her stick for ONLY 20 - 30 SECONDS. Hardly enough time to feel the puck, let alone develop any hockey skills! When it comes to skating, she will be on the ice approximately 12 - 14 MINUTES during the course of a one hour game. Surely a player cannot expect to get any better skating 12 - 14 minutes a week! Games alone will not get it done. To be able to excel at hockey, you need to CONTINUE to work on your individual skills and move beyond your comfort zone. The Girls Night Out Hockey League understands this, which is why we are the only league to offer skill development clinics as part of our program. We believe these skill development clinics are the cornerstone to your success! "It's hard to try and learn something new, especially when you are an adult - yet, how much fun is it to be out there on the ice. And no matter how silly you feel, you're not alone, cause we've all felt that way, waiting at the back of the line; holding on to the boards, hoping we don't fall. Worrying. And yet, one by one, we move up from the back of the line, as we get better and more women join. I wouldn't be skating today if it wasn't for the women at the front of the line who cheered all of us on." -- Kirsten Domingo, Director "Striking into new territory as thirty-something and forty-something women was exhilarating. We had the maturity to allow ourselves to look foolish on the ice and laugh about it instead of worry about it. We also had the maturity to know that if we tried hard enough, and long enough, we could become hockey players." --Author unknown |
